The auto industry isn't just frontline news these days -- it's historically a frontline indicator for both national and local economies. Bill Hoehn, CEO of Hoehn Motors, will share his perspective on the auto industry from his front row seat as owner of a dealership that's been a household name in San Diego for 35 years. Known for his keen ability to foresee trends, Bill has always been popular with a broad range of audiences.
Bill Hoehn's success has been closely tied to his ability to anticipate and respond to market forces. He has navigated his business through the ups and downs of fuel prices, the Japanese juggernaut, the slow erosion of the domestic industry, creation of new brands (like Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Hyundai, Saturn and Hummer), and the surge in retail leasing. In order to shed some light on how entering and succeeding in the dealership business is different today than in the '70's, he will discuss industry changes in revenue streams, cost structure and profitability.
Wondering what car, and when, to buy next? Why not ask Bill that question? If we're lucky, he may be willing to share his view on the relative values of different brands on the market today, and the direction these brands are likely to go as the industry continues to evolve.
Bill Hoehn joined his father and brother in the automobile business in Carlsbad three years after graduating from Stanford. Over the next 35 years, Hoehn Motors has expanded to included ten franchises, all in Carlsbad. Bill is currently a member of the Board of the San Diego County YMCA as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of Fuller Theological Seminary. He has been active in the past in many industry, community, and charitable organizations, including the Mercedes-Benz and Audi Dealer Councils, the San Diego County New Car Dealers Association, the Bishop's School Board of Trustees, Plant With Purpose, World Vision, and the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. In his recreational life, Bill is an avid open-water swimmer and completed the "Triple Crown" of marathon swims five years ago.
