John Major, Chairman of the Board of Broadcom Corporation, spent most of his career in wireless technology at leading companies including Motorola, Qualcomm, Novatel Wireless and now at Broadcom. Mr. Major is uniquely positioned to share insights with us into the future of wireless telecommunications, as well as the Broadcom story.
Broadcom's story is that of a major producer of semiconductors, for both wired and wireless communications, which successfully realized 2008 revenues of nearly $5 billion. With Mr. Major leading the legal strategy, the company has also recently won several high profile litigation victories. One highlight was Qualcomm's April 2009 settlement in which they agreed to pay their rival $891 million to end a patent dispute. Later, in December, a lingering major stock-options case -- brought by the US Government against former executives of the chipmaker -- collapsed with a judge dismissing the charges.
