PETCO CEO Jim Myers will join us to discuss "Driving Pet Industry Leadership through Organizational Transformation."

Through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, PETCO enjoyed a prolonged period of strong growth as it expanded from a regional pet store chain into a national pet superstore powerhouse.  The company was viewed as an industry leader, notably in innovation, unique product assortment, and its provision of a fun, entertaining store experience.  After achieving record growth and more than a decade of best-in-retail same-store sales gains, PETCO lost its edge and competitors began cutting into the company's leadership position.

Accepting this reality, the company, which was taken private in 2006, refocused and re-energized itself with a unified vision of retaking industry leadership by engaging its 21,000 employees, defining and developing the role of its leaders, and emphasizing the importance of process discipline.

CEO Jim Myers will discuss his strategy to develop an employee engagement-powered organization in order to meet its expected goal of $45 billion in sales in 2009.
